As Scientist (P03) in the Plant Biosecurity team in this Agriculture-focused QLD State Government agency, you will be joining a passionate and technical team in Brisbane's CBD. As outlined above, we don't bring you little 6 or 10 week roles, we deliver only the best roles in the market in Queensland. This role has an ASAP start with a contract running until at least 31st December 2025. You simply can't find better than that!!

As the Scientist in the Plant Biosecurity team, you will work within plant biosecurity to achieve plant pest and disease surveillance outcomes through:

• Using your research and analytical skills to perform scientific/ technical literature reviews and write concise scientific reports, papers and recommendations for review by more experienced staff;
• Collating information and contributing advice to support policy and strategic decision-making and provide scientifically-supported guidance to external stakeholders.
• Positively and effectively collaborating with other scientists (e.g. other sub-programs, government departments, external research institutes) to actively resolve problems, address scientific challenges and deliver innovative scientific solutions to strategically manage biosecurity risks. This work may include:
o Prioritising pests for further analysis
o Assisting in pest risk and pathway analysis
o Contributing to ongoing improvement, validation and currency of scientific practices within plant biosecurity surveillance
o Developing, optimising and validating analytical methods to address emerging needs and/or
o Providing initial review and oversight of work outputs.
• Where relevant, directly liaising with external stakeholders, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships to achieve project tasks.
This may include advising producers/industry stakeholders about routine issues (e.g. findings relating to endemic diseases/pests) and attending local and state forums/committees/community events to facilitate effective biosecurity risk assessment and management.
• Presenting research at state/ national conferences with direct supervision and input from a senior scientist.

Mandatory requirements
• A current ‘C’ class drivers’ licence. You may be required to travel within Queensland or interstate for work purposes.
• An Australian Bachelor degree (AQF level 7 or equivalent) or higher in biological or agricultural sciences from a recognised tertiary institution.
• For international qualifications, the applicant will need their qualification assessed, to determine comparability with the Australian Qualifications Framework. The Department of Employment, Small Business and Training can assist with these assessments for Queensland residents.
