On this occasion, we have a fantastic role with our great colleagues in the QLD Department of Primary Industries Chemical Residues testing/analysis team. In your new roles as Science Technician, you will be based at Coopers Plains in Southern Brisbane and join the current team until 30th June 2026 initially. From previous roles, we would be amazed if this opportunity did not extend onwards from there.
Being part of the Chemical Residue Laboratory team, you will provide scientific support to the Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity Business Group. In doing so, your duties will include:

Being part of the Chemical Residue Laboratory team, you will provide scientific support to the Plant Biosecurity and Product Integrity Business Group. In doing so, your duties will include:
- Working independently but under direction to deliver analytical chemistry testing services
- Applying chemical techniques to enable the rapid and accurate quantification of insecticide residues in environmental samples
- Accurately performing scientific tasks in accordance with existing standard operating procedures (SOPs), work instruction (WIs), protocols or methodologies to support the generation of valid data and ongoing compliance with the requirements of NATA accreditation, workplace health and safety requirements and legislative obligations
- Participating in a multidisciplinary team and providing assistance to other areas of the laboratory at the request of the Laboratory Manager and Principal Scientist.
- As relevant, tasks undertaken independently may include the following:
- Maintain, undertake, check and arrange for calibration of laboratory equipment according to the equipment quality maintenance schedule.
- preparing reagents
- monitoring and managing the supply of consumable resources
- cleaning work areas, equipment and materials
- preparing, collecting and managing samples
- ensuring sample integrity via appropriate sample preservation, handling and transport
- performing tests and conducting analyses
- measuring and collecting analytical data
- recording and documenting data using defined systems and methods
- other moderately complex scientific technical activities as directed
- Experience operating within a Laboratory Quality Management System
- Experience using GC-MS is not essential, but favourably desirable.
- Previous experience working in a lab-based setting, focused on Biosecurity.
