About the role:
The Network Engineer has extensive expertise relating to the organisation’s networking solutions, providing due diligence and knowledge across the network technology domain at approximately 45 sites. The domain includes VPN, LAN, WAN, data centre core networks, firewalls, and load balancers.
The Network Engineer provides technical knowledge, future planning and leadership in the delivery and implementation of design and governance activities relevant to the network platform. They will be a contact point within the Platform Services team for the delivery and operations teams, external service providers and vendors within the domain. Responsible for evaluation and documentation of existing computer networks and future re-design components, the Network Engineer works closely with customers, project teams and other Digital and Information teams.

Key Accountabilities:
• Monitors service component capacity and initiates actions to resolve any shortfalls according to agreed procedures. Applies techniques to control the demand upon a particular resource or service.
• Contribute to capacity modelling and planning.
• Ensure that operational processes are in place to maintain secure configuration, consistent classification, and management of CIs, and for the verification and audit of configuration records.
• Report on the status of configuration management. Identifies problems and issues and recommend .
• Coordinate the planning, designing, and testing of maintenance procedures and contingency plans.
• Implement and provide input on the design of required security measures such as firewalls or message encryption, monitoring performance to notify security experts of any problems.
• Use infrastructure management tools to collect and report on load and performance statistics and to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure.
• Provide technical management of an IT operation, ensuring that agreed service levels are met and all relevant policies and procedures are adhered to.
• Complete operational tasks, data management, incident logging, reporting, systems monitoring, systems testing, and disaster recovery.

Experience:
• Possession of a relevant tertiary and/or post-graduate qualification.
• Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP) certification, or similar.
• Substantial general work experience together with job-related experience in own area of expertise to fully competent level.
• Strong practical network management in large geographically dispersed organisations.
• Strong network management including communications links, routing, switching, firewalls, mobile and Wi-Fi technologies, and network security.
• Network operations monitoring, including managing endpoint configuration, and responding to system monitoring events.
• Resolve complex network and security incidents while working independently and in a team.
• Rapidly adapt to changing technical, process and organisational environments.
• Managing an enterprise grade data/voice network.
• Continuously improve processes & technologies and drive a culture of innovation across the business.
• Prioritising workload across multiple ongoing projects and BAU tasks.
