Position Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and detail-driven Regulatory Specialist to join our client’s NPD food manufacturing team. 

This role is initially a 3-month contract with the opportunity of an extension based on-site 5-days per week in Melbourne's Eastern suburbs.

This role ensures that all products, ingredients, labels, and marketing materials comply with relevant food safety, legal, and regulatory standards across domestic and export markets.

The ideal candidate will have expertise in food regulations, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work cross-functionally with Product Development, Quality Assurance, Marketing, and Operations teams.

Key Responsibilities

Regulatory Compliance
  • Interpret, monitor, and apply food regulations, standards, and guidelines
  • Ensure compliance with food labelling requirements, including nutrition panels, ingredient declarations, allergen statements, and claims (e.g., organic, gluten-free)
  • Review and approve product specifications, packaging artwork, and promotional materials for regulatory compliance
Documentation & Approvals
  • Prepare and maintain regulatory documentation including product dossiers, ingredient approvals, and compliance certificates
  • Liaise with government agencies, certification bodies, and external auditors for product registrations, licensing, and certifications
  • Maintain an up-to-date regulatory database of all company products, ingredients, and supplier documentation
Cross-Functional Support
  • Work with Product Development to provide regulatory input during new product design and formulation stages
  • Support Procurement and Supply Chain in sourcing compliant raw materials and ensuring supplier documentation meets regulatory standards
  • Assist Quality Assurance in preparing for audits and inspections by regulatory authorities and certification agencies
Risk Management
  • Assess regulatory risks associated with new product concepts, ingredient substitutions, and marketing claims
  • Monitor and communicate changes in legislation, standards, or industry best practices that may impact the business
  • Provide training and guidance to internal teams on compliance requirements
Skills & Qualifications

Essential
  • Strong understanding of food regulations, standards, and labeling laws (e.g., FSANZ, HACCP, Codex)
  • Experience in regulatory affairs, compliance, or quality assurance within the food industry
  • Excellent attention to detail and analytical skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to clearly interpret and explain regulatory requirements
  • Proficiency with MS Office and document control systems
Desirable
  • Minimum of two years experience in similar role
  • Must have strong Excel and FoodWorks experience | BarTender desirable
  • Degree in Food Science, Food Technology, Nutrition, Regulatory Affairs, or related discipline
  • Available for an immediate start
