As Senior Project Officer, you will join the team on a contract until 30th June 2026 initially however, we rarely see departures as the basis of the work will be ongoing for many years after the initial project reaches it's completion. In your day to day role, you will lead the way on a key project undertaking two aerial treatments of approximately 106,000 hectares of known high infestations of invasive pest insects.

In your day to day role, you will lead the way on a key project undertaking two aerial treatments of approximately 106,000 hectares of known high infestations of invasive pest insects.
This will include:
- Development and application of project management skills and knowledge to successfully plan, deliver and evaluate an aerial treatment project.
- Use of proficient ArcGIS geospatial analysis skills to process and visually present information relating to the project.
- Active engagement with government agencies and other stakeholders to build relationships and organise consent for the treatment activities.
- Provision of effective project coordination, reporting and tracking of project activities including project deliverables and risks.
- Leading project data recording processes utilising departmental programs, including mapping, field data capture and integration into Project IT systems. Ensure sound governance of data collection, storage, analysis and reporting of results.
- Providing technical advice to large landholders in areas targeted for aerial treatment on the effective implementation of active management, including risk mitigation, surveillance, treatment and reporting.
- Planning and coordination of activities that engage and support large landholders to accommodate aerial treatment of the land they own or manage, and to undertake land-based treatment of any areas not aerially treated.
- Representing the Department at workshops, field days, meetings and engagements with large landholders to promote management activities and options.
- The position will require occasional weekend work.
- Experience working with GIS applications, especially ArcGIS, will be highly thought of.
- Prior experience working with helicopter or drone technology will be very well considered.
- Experience project managing medium sized projects, preferably in an environmental or biosecurity setting.
- Previous experience leading teams in a project setting, to meet set goals and deadlines.
- Experience in stakeholder engagement in settings where engagement is not always one-way or positive at all times. Great communication skills will be needed to traverse these conversations as they occur.
