Description:
In the role of Principal Engineer (Civil) you will manage the delivery of key components of the road infrastructure program and provide specialist technical expertise and advice to infrastructure projects and to other professional and technical staff to ensure successful delivery of the program within time, quality, cost, and stakeholder expectations. This is a 12 month contract role with two possible extensions at the end of this term. The role will be based on the Gold Coast. 
 
Accountabilities include:
 
-Provide reports on the progress of works and actual and forecast expenditure.
-Act as "Representative of the Principal" for the delivery of contracts as defined and delegated at respective project phases.
-Ensure all quality and environmental aspects of the project are identified and addressed to maintain effective operation and project delivery.
-Manage the calling and assessment of tenders and the contract awarding process for construction projects in the Region's Roads Implementation Program.
-Provide high level engineering advice and input into planning and design suitability and options, the use of materials, resources, components or systems within the project, and construction practices and problems to ensure project success, value for money and best practice are achieved.
-Manage the operational aspects of project delivery to ensure the effective and efficient use of systems and processes involved with all phases of the project management model.
-Maintain and apply all relevant standards, policies, guidelines, and legislative requirements necessary to support responsible decisions and courses of action for the design and construction of road infrastructure projects.
-Supervise and coordinate resource allocation with the expectation that you would encourage effective teamwork and foster a positive attitude toward the achievement of organisational objectives.
 
 
Role/occupational capabilities:
 
-Demonstrated ability to project manage the design and / or construction of projects in a wide variety of environments, including urban and multi-lane high speed roads.
-Ability to develop contract documentation, procure, assess design and / or construct tenders and manage award phase. The incumbent will need to quickly acquire knowledge of policies and legislation for engagement of consultants and contractors, and the forms of contract used for this purpose.
-This role is required to act as a Project Manager and/or Contract Administrator to ensure that quality and value for money for the department has been achieved.
-Demonstrated ability to project manage a variety of projects through their lifecycle to ensure delivery is achieved within scope, on time and to budget.
-This role is critical in supervising engineering resources and other technical staff due to the mandatory requirement of Registered Professional of Queensland (RPEQ). The role is also required to assist graduates, other engineers and technical staff to resolve technical issues on projects and mentor them to deliver programs on time and to budget.
-This role is also required to provide agreed customer service by attending to all public enquiries (which requires technical input) through appropriate channel and in a timely manner.
-This role will promote and contribute to a safe, healthy and sustainable workforce. Provide leadership in safety on projects, and coordinate project requirements with Road Operations teams to ensure efficient network operations.
 
You will require:
 
Formal recognised degree in Engineering
Current Drivers Licence
White Card
Able to complete a Criminal Records Check if successful
