Osborne Richardson are delighted to be assisting Logan City Council with a key vacancy in their Land Use Investigations Team.
As Land Use Investigations Officer, you will join the existing team in a long-term role right from the off. Starting ASAP, this position will extend onwards until the end of November at the very earliest and is very likely to be ongoing past this into 2027.
In this role, you will play a key role in the protection of the local Environment in the Logan region. Being the key liaison between ongoing development in Logan and the protection of the environment/community, you will have a busy and interesting workload to get stuck into. In this role, you will play a key role in the protection of the local Environment in the Logan region. Being the key liaison between ongoing development in Logan and the protection of the environment/community, you will have a busy and interesting workload to get stuck into. Every day will be different and include the following duties:
- Enforce the provisions of the planning scheme and the Sustainable Planning Act 2009 as a regulatory function of the development
assessment process. - Investigate, interview, gather evidence with a community education focus and formulate action with regards to the legislation
available in relation to alleged offences under the planning scheme:
- The investigation of allegations of activities as contained in the “defined users” in the town planning scheme.
- Investigations of allegations regarding land use outside the purpose definitions.
- Complaints arising from the existence of a Council approved activity.
- Complaints arising from activities outside of the approval conditions. - Liaise with owners, developers, contractors, builders, town planners, etc with respect to current or projected land use inconsistencies with the planning scheme and provide a quality direction for their future compliance.
- Provide quality customer service in all dealings with all customers of the Branch.
- Commence enforcement actions with regards to the planning scheme, local laws and subordinate local laws by issuing show cause
notices, enforcement notices, verbal direction compliance notices and where appropriate infringement notices. - Prosecution of offences where directed by Council including the giving of evidence in a Magistrates Court and Planning and
Environment Court.
- Formal qualifications, such as the Associate Diploma - Built Environment or similar would be an advantage.
- Knowledge of the Sustainable Planning Act 2009, Town Plan documents and Policies and ability to read and assess Building
Plans / Development Plans is desirable. - Proven ability to conduct inspections and investigations on a community level, and produce effective outcomes within the
parameters of relevant Legislation, relevant Local Laws and Council policies. - Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills with a proven ability to communicate effectively with people at all levels
and from all backgrounds and the ability to act tactfully in sometimes very sensitive situations. - Excellent written communication skills and a demonstrated ability to formulate concise and accurate written reports and
correspondence. - Proven ability to operate a computer to access and retrieve data in accordance with the Council’s requirements and procedures.
- Ability to maintain effectiveness and motivation when required to do so and the ability to respect and accept requests, directions
and workforce change from Supervisory staff with a positive, team-oriented attitude. - Excellent organisational skills, the ability to focus on specific tasks
- A full driver's licence
