Working alongside many of our existing and previous employees in this Biosecurity-focused role, you will enjoy every fast-paced minute of it.

As Senior Project Officer, you will join the team on a contract until 30th June 2026 initially however, we rarely see departures as the basis of the work will be ongoing for many years after the initial project reaches it's completion. In your day to day role, you will lead the way on a key project undertaking two aerial treatments of approximately 106,000 hectares of known high infestations of invasive pest insects.

This will include:

Development and application of project management skills and knowledge to successfully plan, deliver and evaluate an aerial treatment project.
Use of proficient ArcGIS geospatial analysis skills to process and visually present information relating to the project.
Active engagement with government agencies and other stakeholders to build relationships and organise consent for the treatment activities.
Provision of effective project coordination, reporting and tracking of project activities including project deliverables and risks.
Leading project data recording processes utilising departmental programs, including mapping, field data capture and integration into Project IT systems. Ensure sound governance of data collection, storage, analysis and reporting of results.
Providing technical advice to large landholders in areas targeted for aerial treatment on the effective implementation of active management, including risk mitigation, surveillance, treatment and reporting.
Planning and coordination of activities that engage and support large landholders to accommodate aerial treatment of the land they own or manage, and to undertake land-based treatment of any areas not aerially treated.
Representing the Department at workshops, field days, meetings and engagements with large landholders to promote management activities and options.
The position will require occasional weekend work.

Experience working with GIS applications, especially ArcGIS, will be highly thought of.
Prior experience working with helicopter or drone technology will be very well considered.
Experience project managing medium sized projects, preferably in an environmental or biosecurity setting.
Previous experience leading teams in a project setting, to meet set goals and deadlines.
Experience in stakeholder engagement in settings where engagement is not always one-way or positive at all times. Great communication skills will be needed to traverse these conversations as they occur.

This role will offer a range of work locations, between Berrinba or Mutdapilly in Southern Brisbane or Brisbane CBD. Hybrid working will also be available after initial settling in, with a 3/2 split between office and home on offer.

As Senior Sustainable Environment Officer - Climate Adaptation and Sustainable Procurement, you will join the Council team in a part-time capacity until April 2026 initially with extension highly likely. The role seeks 3 days per week, totalling 15 hours in total between 10am and 3.45pm ideally but hours are likely to be somewhat flexible.

In this key role, you will play a key role in Council's response to Climate Adaptation, including coordination of the development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and review of Council's environmental policies to better align with climate change response.

Overall, this role will see you thrive if you are focused and passionate on both macro and micro climate change threats and the positive routes Local Government can take to minimise these threats. Your role will ultimately include many duties including to:

Coordinate development, implementation, monitoring, reporting and review of strategies and policies
Develop and embed processes to improve Council’s climate adaptation response and sustainable procurement.
Provide professional advice on climate adaptation and sustainable procurement.
Support, embed and celebrate circular economy principles and sustainable procurement practices across the organisation, particularly for products with high impacts and viable low carbon alternatives for example ashphalt and concrete.

Bearing in mind the significance of this role, we are seeking candidates who are true experts in the Climate Change and Sustainability fields who share the Council's passion for positive change. Please critically review your own skills and experience against the following success criteria before applying:

Tertiary qualifications in environmental sciences, environmental policy or a related field or lesser formal qualifications with extensive relevant experience.
Substantial experience in the development, coordination and review of environmental strategies and policies with experience in climate change risk management preferred
High level understanding and application of the principals and practices of sound environmental management particularly in relation to integrated water management, environmentally sustainable design and development, environmentally preferable procurement and climate change adaptation.
Demonstrated ability to identify and set future directions and to develop strategies and policies to achieve sound environmental management practices and positive environmental outcomes.
Demonstrated high level experience in environmental management including embedding and integrating environmental change across a large organisation, sustainable procurement and/or climate change adaptation.
A strong background in formulating creative and innovative approaches in problem solving and generating outcomes to meet strategic directions, and where guidance and advice are not always available.
Demonstrated ability to gain cooperation and assistance from colleagues, contractors and external stakeholders to achieve strategic objectives and implement projects.
Demonstrated process and project management skills, including the ability to lead and manage complex projects, with diverse project teams and delivery models, to deliver objectives within timeframes and budgets

The main purpose of this position is to provide a responsive building site management service through the effective and efficient

Key responsibilites in this role include:

You should be able to demonstrate the following key skills, knowledge and experience:

Comprehensive knowledge of legislation and the General Local Law relating to Amenity Protection. For example, Road Safety Act, Road Safety Road Rules, Summary Offences Act, Infringements Act, Local Government Act, and Environment Protection Act.
Competent in computer and electronic infringement issuing devices.
In-depth understanding of factual investigation, surveillance, investigative report writing, interview techniques, taking of statements and brief preparation.
High level of oral and written communication skills when communicating with internal staff, customers and representing in a Court setting.
A Certificate IV in Statutory Compliance (Government) or similar qualification in Government or Civil Investigations with relevant experience or substantial experience working in law enforcement environment and/or environmental protection.

Key accountabilities

Lead and coordinate the Stormwater Design team, including:

o            supervision and performance management
o            mentor and development of team members
o            responsibility for overall team performance to ensure all allocated

Ensure project and program design activities are successfully delivered by agreed dates, within budget, and are in accordance with performance targets
Oversee the team to ensure all civil stormwater designs are completed in accordance with professional engineering standards, are of high quality that meet Council’s specific requirements, addressing multiple objectives such as, and not limited to, improved amenity, urban heat and safety
Authorise civil stormwater designs so they can be issued for construction
Lead and prepare technical stormwater engineering policy documents, research, strategic plans and provide technical expertise to internal and external stakeholders including the community
Develop and manage monitoring and reporting systems for the team inclusive of Asset Design’s Quality Assurance Management System
Manage overall team financial budgets
Lead and coordinate the review of Local Environmental Plan (LEP), State Environmental Planning Policies (SEPP), Development control plans (DCP)

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

Degree in Civil Engineering or related field
Engineers Australia Chartered Engineer qualification (CpEng) and National Engineering Registration (NER)
In-depth demonstrated experience in leading and managing design teams to ensure effective and timely delivery of program activities
Demonstrated experience in GIS packages, computer literacy in Microsoft Office applications and extensive experience in AutoCAD, 12D and water engineering applications such as DRAINS, HEC-RAS, XP-RAFTS, TUFLOW, WaterRIDE and MUSIC
Demonstrated analytical and problem-solving skills including the ability to determine and adapt management approaches for a broad range of stormwater, floodplain and road infrastructure management situations
Demonstrated commitment to customer service
Knowledge of applicable legislation and regulations
Experience in managing financial budgets with inclusion of forecasting
Current class C driver’s licence.

Desirable

Demonstrated experience in coordinating stormwater management and transport infrastructure with developer works
Demonstrated experience in preparing precinct scale stormwater strategies, contribution plans, and associated planning instruments and policies

About the role:

The Content and Assessment Writer is responsible for ensuring learning and assessment resources align to the qualifications, unit requirements, legislative and industry requirements and standards for the Maritime Operations (MAR) courses. While experience working in a VET environment experience is preferred, someone with experience as a technical writer in the Maritime Operations space would be considered for the position.

Produce assessment mapping and other ancillary documents and resourcesas required.

Develop, review and update learning resources that are well structured, accurate and stylised to meet approved guidelines and learning resource design principles.
Make modifications to the resources based on the Quality Assurance/Validation/Vocational specialist process and respond to the feedback positively and promptly.

The Coordinator Compliance Services will be responsible for providing team leadership and delivery of the Council's compliance, and community safety, with a focus on customer service and legislative requirements. The Coordinator Compliance Services will lead a team made up of Local Laws Officers, Animal Management Officers, Parking Officers and School Crossing Supervisors.

Key duties include:

Supporting the implementation of change across the unit by actively participating in the change process, and involving team members in discussion and activity.
Managing strategies, plans and operations to ensure they align with the established compliance framework and meet legal and policy requirements.
Managing the legal process of enforcement, including collection of evidence, preparation of witness statements and brief of evidence and presentation to courts.
Administering and ensuring compliance with the Council's obligations and authorities under Acts, Regulations and Codes.

We're looking for candidates who have:

Strong problem-solving skills.
Knowledge of principles and practices of budgeting, financial management and procurement.
The ability to manage multiple tasks, setting priorities, organise and plan own work and delegate effectively to meet timelines despite conflicting pressures.
Ability to gain co-operation and assistance from a broad range of internal and external parties, including members of the public.
Ability to represent Council to a range of external stakeholders, government departments and other councils.
Developed negotiation and dispute resolution skills.
Tertiary qualifications in relevant enforcement and compliance fields and a broad range of Local Government enforcement experience is highly desirable.
