On this occasion, we are working with our long-term colleagues in Logan City Council to source a Principal Risk Advisor to join their Corporate Government Branch until July 2025.

In your new role, you will provide senior specialist advice, analysis and partnership with stakeholders to influence the risk strategy and operationalise the strategy in accordance with Council's Governance Framework, and Risk Management and Compliance Framework and associated policies and procedures. The position is also responsible for managing projects, engaging widely with stakeholders across Council, applying sound judgement by investigating and reporting on risk and compliance matters and making recommendations with respect to such matters.

In this leadership role, you will have a wide range of duties on a daily basis, including:

• Applying specialist risk knowledge and experience to implement and maintain a fit-for-purpose Risk Management and Compliance Framework the meets Council requirements.
• Developing and maintaining operational risk registers for each branch in line with the Risk Management and Compliance Framework.
• Developing and maintaining a strategic risk register for Council in line with the Risk Management and Compliance Framework.
• Providing oversight of treatment actions to completion to further reduce risks to be within Council’s appetite.
• Developing and progressing a controls and assurance testing regime to confirm controls effectiveness.
• Engaging with stakeholders across Council to educate and raise awareness of the Risk Management and Compliance Framework and the role and responsibility of staff and leaders to embed risk management into their work processes and procedures.
• Leading the delivery of Council's risk framework reporting processes, including partnering with stakeholders across Council to ensure required reporting expectations are met.
• Providing expert technical guidance across the teams within the Risk and Compliance Program, to deliver excellence in accordance with the Branch Business Plan.

As a key member of the team, you will be expected to bring a track-record of high-level corporate risk management expertise. In this respect, you will closely align to the following key candidate requirements:

1. Tertiary qualifications in governance, risk and/or compliance coupled with substantial knowledge gained as a result of performing the key responsibilities in a dynamic/complex environment.
2. Demonstrated knowledge of current strategic and enterprise risk management frameworks, principles and practices, ideally in a State or Local Government context.
3. Expert reporting skills with extensive experience in producing complex compliance strategy reports and preparing business cases, correspondence and briefing material for senior, executive management, and elected officials.
4. Demonstrated success providing technical advice at all levels including staff, leaders, and Executives on corporate risk management matters.
5. Proven experience operating as a technical specialist advisor accountable for establishing and maintaining risk frameworks and systems in large complex organisations.
6. Demonstrated advanced engagement and facilitation skills including delivering education and awareness initiatives about risk management principles and practices.
