Description:
Osborne Richardson continue to bring exceptional Compliance and Animal Management roles to the market all over Australia and we are incredibly excited about these great new roles with Logan City Council in Southern Brisbane.
We are looking for Animal Management Officers who are passionate about furthering their careers in the Local Government arena. We have been asked to speak to the Animal Community and find several Animal Management Officers to join the ranks of this large Local Council in Southern Brisbane. These great roles will commence ASAP and run, initially, for 6 months. We are also delighted to advise that we have been given a very strong indication that these roles are intended to be extended or even end up transitioning into permanent roles within Council.
In these highly sought-after positions, no one day will ever provide the same challenge and you will find yourself undertaking a range of duties such as:
• Investigate alleged breaches the Animal Management Local Law including but not limited to, wandering animals, excess animals, enclosure issues, patrols (proactive and reactive), animal incidents, cat and dog registration, animal nuisances, cats / dogs in prohibited areas, non-compliance at dog off-leash parks, property inspections, etc.
• Respond to reports of immediate risk to public health and safety in regard to domestic animal attacks and wandering livestock, using meticulous negotiation and observation skills to determine risk to public health and safety and act accordingly within legislation.
• Collect domestic animals contained for collection. Contain, capture and impound animals wandering at large or on private property at the property owner’s request.
• Carry out thorough history checks on properties to determine previous non-compliance and/or breaches of legislation.
• Gather clear, factual and impartial evidence, affording natural justice to all parties, collecting evidence within the level of core responsibilities and authorisation, sometimes for multiple offences at one property.
• Interview witnesses and where breaches are detected ensure a reliable body of evidence exists, to pursue compliance.
• Comprehend and understand animal body language. Safely handle frightened, timid, injured or aggressive animals with confidence and patience.
• Identify and manage personal risk in highly emotive, potentially aggressive or confrontational situations.
• Proactively respond to any emergency, disaster or public health and safety concern specific to domestic animals including after hours (on-call) on a rostered basis.
• Present evidence in court. The incumbent must maintain contemporary knowledge of requirements outlined in Council’s local law.
• Have the ability, with empathy, to remove (seize) animals from a property or the owners’ custody as required.
We are always looking for the right applicants, complimenting and supporting the existing Officers in the team and enhancing the positive organisational culture that already runs through this department. In this respect, we seek applicants based not on how many years they have in a similar role but on their raw ability to do the role, work ethic, engaging personality and ability to communicate across wide sectors of the community. At the end of the day, experience is fantastic however, it's the person themselves who truly make the difference with these great roles.
